You can get a job as a security guard through a security agency that sends guards to client locations, or you can be hired directly by the company or organization that needs a security guard. Depending on which route you take, you might work security in a parking garage or lot, at a building front desk, during events or even throughout a building, like a hospital, museum, store or school. In addition, you may work any shift, including overnights.

For entry-level security guard roles, you typically don’t need experience. You may need to complete on-the-job training and become licensed for your specific role. In addition, your state may also have additional requirements for both armed and unarmed security personnel, which you may have to meet after being hired.
